Every semester I set up a still life for students to draw from so they can practice R-Mode thinking and observational drawing. High school and middle school students work on this project at the same time so the still life can remain untouched throughout the course of the project. Students are instructed to design a composition through the use of a viewfinder, then map out the contours of each object before adding value through charcoal.
